Axell Wireless Installs DAS System at World Trade Center Complex

DALLAS – Public safety DAS deployment ensures complete connectivity for police, fire and other mission critical organizations

Axell Wireless, the worldwide provider of wireless cellular and public safety solutions for buildings and confined spaces, is supplying the public safety communications system for the new World Trade Center complex in New York City, including One World Trade Center, the tallest building in the U.S. at 1776 feet and the fourth tallest in the world.

The deployment is the largest public safety system installed by Axell and will cover One World Trade Center, implemented by TechMer and Axell Wireless. It will also cover the surrounding buildings including the World Trade Center HUB, Pavilion, Vehicle Security Center Roadway (shopping malls and transportation center for the complex), Museum and Memorial, implemented by Pinnacle Wireless and Axell Wireless. The system will support New York City Police, Transit Police, Fire Department of New York, Homeland Security, and other federal and state organizations responsible for emergency services and first responders in New York City and nearby jurisdictions.

The integrated public safety system includes Axell Wireless' optical master unit (OMU) fiber head end units, directional couplers, VHF filters and distribution amplifier packages covering 88 channels for UHF, VHF, and 800 MHz frequency bands. The high-speed system involved laying over 5 miles of high-capacity optical fiber to create the largest public safety system in the USA.

The Axell Wireless system installed in the complex successfully underwent extensive independent testing prior to being approved for installation, including over 800 individual tests over a 38 hour period and performed flawlessly in challenging operating environments at temperatures ranging from -20degree(s)C to +65degree(s)C. As part of this project Axell Wireless and its partner also provided temporary installations after Superstorm Sandy destroyed all existing public safety communications infrastructure on the site.

Matt Thompson, Vice-President of Sales - Americas, Axell Wireless commented: "We are pleased to be involved with one of the largest public safety deployment projects ever implemented in the USA, at such an iconic project as the World Trade Center."
