ASTM International Sponsors Workshop on Metal-on-Metal Total Hip Replacement Devices
W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. - A workshop on Metal-On-Metal Total Hip Replacement Devices will be held May 17, 2011, at the Marriott Anaheim in Anaheim, Calif. Sponsored by ASTM International Committee F04 on Medical and Surgical Materials and Devices, the workshop will be held in conjunction with the May standards development meetings of the committee.
The purpose of this Workshop is to provide a forum for consensus development and scientific exchange on the needs for characterization and standardized testing related to metal-on-metal (MoM) hip replacement devices. The main focus of this workshop is to address unmet standardization needs and to help establish best testing practices in the four following areas:
o Characterization of adverse local tissue reactions;
o Wear/corrosion: metallic product measurement in fluid and tissue samples;
o Analyses of retrieved MoM implants; and
o In vitro testing of MoM implants under adverse conditions.
A technical program (presentation times, paper titles, and presenters' names) will be posted on the ASTM website by early February 2011.
Online registration opens approximately eight weeks before the workshop and closes May 11. The fee to attend the workshop for ASTM members is $50 USD for online registration and $75 USD for on-site registration. The fee for non-ASTM members is $100 USD online and $150 USD on site.
