Papers Are Invited for ASTM International Symposium on Pesticide Formulation and Delivery Systems

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa.-Papers are invited for the 33rd Symposium on Pesticide Formulation and Delivery Systems: "Sustainability: Contributions from Formulation Technology." Sponsored by ASTM International Committee E35 on Pesticides, Antimicrobials and Alternative Control Agents, the symposium will be held Oct. 23-25, 2012, at the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta, Ga., in conjunction with the October standards development meetings of the committee.

The 2011 symposium very effectively dealt with the importance of pest resistance and formulation technology for a combination of actives to more effectively confront resistance. The theme this year of sustainability and the formulator's role has been and continues to be important. Sustainability can be defined in various ways. Any efficiency in use of inputs, agronomic practices and performance may be included. Many topics will be apparent within this theme and papers are requested but not limited to the following topics:

  • Nanoparticle formulations-papers might include formulations, performance benefits and a discussion regarding EPA's position on nanotechnology;
  • Biopesticides-this might fit in well with ASTM's recent work on the subject;
  • Combination pesticide formulations-there is much more development required to solve the still emerging problems;
  • Formulation trends-it seems 2012 may be a year in which we see many formulation changes related to glyphosate resistance, other resistance issues and solvent use/nonuse;
  • Other formulation developments that contribute to sustainability;
  • Adjuvant evolution-the drive towards efficiency; and
  • Input resources and overall sustainability (raw materials, water, energy, soil, acreage, etc.).

    To participate in the symposium, presenters/authors must submit and attach a 250-300 word preliminary abstract no later than March 30, 2012. The abstract must include a clear definition of the objective and approach of the work discussed, pointing out material that is new, and present sufficient details regarding results. The presentation and manuscript must not be of a commercial nature nor can it have been previously published. The symposium chairman will notify you via postal mail by April 9, 2012, of your paper's acceptability for presentation at the symposium.

    Symposium presenters are required to submit their papers to the Selected Technical Paper (STP), an online and printed, peer-reviewed publication for the international scientific and engineering community. After the final selection of abstracts has been approved, the ASTM Editorial Office will send authors' instructions via email only. Manuscripts to be peer reviewed for the STP are due online no later than Oct. 23, 2012, at the ASTM Editorial Office.

    Visit www.astm.org/MEETINGS/COMMIT/e35cfp1012.htm for abstract submittal and additional information. Additional technical information is available from symposium chairman Carmine Sesa, AgMarketResults LLC, Newtown, Pa. (phone: 215-579-7212; cpsesa@gmail.com).
