ASTM Honors Ergon's Jimmy Rasco with Charles A. Johnson Award.

Jimmy Rasco of Ergon Receives Award from ASTM Committee on Electrical Insulating Liquids and Gases



The ASTM International Charles A. Johnson Award has been presented to Jimmy Rasco, vice president – Global Base Oil Technology, with Ergon Inc., based in Jackson, Mississippi.



The award honors Rasco’s contributions to ASTM Committee D27 on Electrical Insulating Liquids and Gases. As a D27 member and chairman of the Subcommittee on Mineral Oils (D27.01), he has contributed to the development of several international standards related to the analysis and specification of mineral oils and recycled oils, oxidation stability and dissolved gases in insulating liquids. Rasco, an ASTM member since 2004, also works on Committee D18 on Soil and Rock.



A graduate of Alcorn State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Rasco specializes in the product development and quality control of refined petroleum products for Ergon Refining Inc., in Vicksburg, Mississippi, and Ergon – West Virginia Inc., in Newell, West Virginia. He began his career as a chemist at Amerada Hess Corp. (previously known as the Hess Corp.) in Purvis, Mississippi, before joining Ergon Refining Inc. in 1994. There he served as technical service manager and vice president – Product Services before assuming his current title in 2009.



Rasco is a member of several organizations in addition to ASTM, including the American Chemical Society, American National Standards Institute, International Council on Large Electrical Systems, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the International Electrotechnical Commission.
