ASTM International Asset Management Committee Honors Two Longtime Members



W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., —ASTM International Committee E53 on Asset Management has initiated the Dieter-Hestermann award to recognize and honor future individuals who provide outstanding leadership and have made exemplary technical, practical and administrative contributions to Committee E53 over a continuous period of time.



The inaugural recipients and namesakes of the award are James M. Dieter, an asset management consultant at Ascot Associates in Vienna, Va., and Lyle Hestermann, a retired property manager from Fort Wayne, Ind. Both are are being honored for their dedicated service and innovative leadership to the ASTM committee. Dieter and Hestermann are two of Committee E53’s co-founders; with ASTM’s support and guidance they organized the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Project Committee 251 on Asset Management.



James M. Dieter is a past E53 vice chairman and longtime member of the E53 executive subcommittee. He currently chairs Subcommittee E53.10 on ISO Asset Management Activity and is the U.S./American National Standards Institute head of delegation representing the ASTM U.S. TAG to ISO PC/251, developers of the ISO 55000 Standard for Asset Management. He has received multiple Awards of Recognition for his E53 contributions. A member of ASTM International since 2000, Dieter also works on Committee E60 on Sustainability.



A graduate of Allegheny College, Meadville, Pa., where he earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, Dieter continues his long association with Sunflower Systems, Arlington, Va., as a strategic programs consultant through Ascot. Prior to joining Sunflower in 2008, he held property and resource manager roles at Northrup Grumman, McLean, Va.; Honeywell, Columbia, Md.; and Computer Services Corp., Calverton, Md. He is a member of the Asset Leadership Network, the Institute of Asset Management and the International Association of IT Asset Managers, and a consulting fellow, property person of the year and former executive board member at the National Property Management Association (NPMA) in addition to ASTM International.



Lyle Hestermann also joined ASTM International in 2000. He is a past E53 chairman and works on multiple E53 subcommittees. The committee has recognized his work with several Awards of Appreciation.



A Certified Professional Property Manager (CCPM), Hestermann holds a bachelor’s degree in general studies from Indiana University, Fort Wayne, Ind. He retired from Raytheon, Fort Wayne, Ind., in 2013 after 32 years of service in property management roles. He also had a long military career in the U.S. Army and Air National Guard, retiring in 2003 after 32 years of service. Outside ASTM International, Hestermann is a member of the American National Standards Institute, the Institute of Asset Management, the International Association of IT Asset Managers, the National Contract Management Association and the National Property Management Association, where he has been named a consulting fellow and was the property person of the year in 2010.
