ASTM announces flammability of materials symposium.

ASTM Symposium on Flammability of Materials in Oxygen-Enriched Atmospheres

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., 10 November 2008-The Twelfth International Symposium on Flammability and Sensitivity of Materials in Oxygen-Enriched Atmospheres will be held Oct. 7-9, 2009, at the Hilton Berlin Hotel in Berlin, Germany. Sponsored by ASTM International Committee G04 on Compatibility and Sensitivity of Materials in Oxygen-Enriched Atmospheres, the program will be held in conjunction with the Oct. 5-6 standards development meetings of the committee. This twelfth symposium in the series unites a wealth of specialized information needed to understand, design, construct and operate systems using oxygen-enriched atmospheres. The technical papers to be presented contain valuable commentaries on materials selection regimens, design philosophies, and hazards identification and analysis procedures. This information, coupled with design overviews of specific hardware relating to oxygen compatibility, will provide a dynamic forum for all participants. Specific presentations will provide theoretical foundations of ignition and combustion of metals and nonmetals, with results of experimental test programs and discussions relating test results to the design of oxygen systems and components. Instructive accident/incident case studies will also be presented in detail and material compatibility data with oxidants other than oxygen (such as NF3) will round out the offerings. Online registration opens approximately eight weeks before the symposium and closes Sept. 21, 2009. The fees to attend this symposium will be posted on the ASTM Web site in March 2009.
