ASABE to Adopt International Standard on Hitch Ring Dimensions



ST JOSEPH, MICHIGAN-The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) has initiated a project to adopt nationally an international standard, ISO 21244:2008, Agricultural equipment - Mechanical connections between towed and towing vehicles - Implement hitch rings and attachment to tractor drawbars.

The adoption will advance harmonization of national and international standards, a goal that facilitates manufacturing, safety advancements and product marketing worldwide. Additionally, adoption of ISO 21244 nationally will help promote its use in the North American marketplace.

ASABE members were heavily involved with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in the development and approval of ISO 21244.

ASABE is recognized worldwide as a standards developing organization for food, agricultural, and biological systems, with more than 225 standards currently in publication. Conformance to ASABE standards is voluntary, except where required by state, provincial, or other governmental requirements, and the documents are developed by consensus in accordance with procedures approved by the American National Standards Institute.
