ASABE Soil and Water Engineering Terminology Standard Revised

ST JOSEPH, MICHIGAN— The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) has completed a revision to its engineering standard for soil and water terminology.

The revised standard, ASAE S526.4, Soil and Water Terminology, contains preferred terms and definitions that may not be found in other reference publications. These preferred terms and definitions are intended for use in technical journals, magazines, textbooks, and extension bulletins, as well as all other ASABE standards. The definitions in ASAE S526.4, which total more than 900, have been added to the AgGateway AgGlossary at agglossary.org, a new online resource for the agricultural community developed to serve as a one-stop, online location for anyone seeking the definition of an agricultural term.

The document was revised under the leadership of ASABE's Natural Resources & Environmental Services technical community, a highly qualified pool of experts whose primary focus is on engineering topics related to irrigation, drainage, and control of nonpoint-source pollution runoff.

ASABE members with standards access and those with site-license privileges can access the full-text of the standard by electronic download in about three weeks. Location for the download is on the ASABE online Technical Library at: elibrary.asabe.org. Others can obtain a copy for a fee directly from the library or by contacting ASABE headquarters at OrderStandard@asabe.org.
