ASABE Approves Rotary and Flail Mower Standards
ST JOSEPH, MICHIGAN— The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) has adopted four standards that address the safety and testing of rotary disk, drum and flail mowers.
Three of the documents are international standards, adoption of which further harmonizes national and international standardization, a goal that facilitates manufacturing, safety advancements and product marketing worldwide. The adoptions are:
• ANSI/ASABE AD4254-12: 2012, Agricultural machinery — Safety — Part 12: Rotary disc and drum mowers and flail mowers
• ASABE/ISO 17101-1:2012, Agricultural machinery — Thrown-object test and acceptance criteria — Part 1: Rotary mowers
• ASABE/ISO 17101-2:2012 JUN2016, Agricultural machinery — Thrown-object test and acceptance criteria — Part 2: Flail mowers
The fourth standard, ANSI/ASABE S639, Safety Standard for Large Row-Crop Flail Mowers, is a new national standard.
