APS Dynamics, Manufacturer of Vibration Shakers & Systems, Is Acquired by SPEKTRA, Manufacturer of Calibration & Vibration Control Systems

5 February 2008, Carlsbad, CA, USA - APS Dynamics, Inc., a leading designer and manufacturer of vibration shakers and systems for modal test excitation, low frequency calibration and component test, is pleased to announce that the Assets and Product Line have been acquired by SPEKTRA, the foremost designer and manufacturer of vibration and acoustic calibration systems. SPEKTRA will continue the long-established tradition of producing high-quality, high-performance shakers that have made APS Dynamics the leader in the industry for more than 35 years.

The products of APS Dynamics include the ELECTRO-SEIS family of long-stroke shakers for modal excitation of structures and low frequency calibration of accelerometers, and the DUAL-MODE Voltage/Current Mode Power Amplifiers for driving shakers. Dottie and Ken Metzgar, the company's founders and current owners, began company operations in Anaheim, CA in 1971 and later moved to its present location in Carlsbad, CA in 1981. "It was very important to us that the company purchasing APS Dynamics have the technical ability to continue producing the current products as well as a strong commitment to providing customer support, which has been an important part of our business", explained Ken Metzgar. "SPEKTRA was an excellent choice for meeting these criteria."

SPEKTRA Vibration & Acoustics Systems Engineering is headquartered in Dresden, Germany and specializes in the development of measuring and testing systems as well as calibration equipment for sensor systems. Dr. Holger Nicklich, the company's Managing Director and a founding partner, is pleased at the opportunity to continue the production of a unique and important product line. "The APS Dynamics products have played an important part in the research and engineering community. SPEKTRA is pleased to continue providing customers with these innovative, reliable systems for generating controlled vibration."

APS Dynamics will continue with its operations in Carlsbad, CA as it works with SPEKTRA engineers to share product design knowledge. "We are working closely with SPEKTRA to ensure a smooth transition and negligible impact on our customers", noted Mr. Metzgar. Dr. Nicklich of SPEKTRA added, "Because we have been using APS shakers in our vibration calibration systems for many years, we are already very familiar with their general design and capabilities. Furthermore, the ability to design and produce low frequency shakers will complement our existing capabilities to design and produce high frequency shakers and shock exciters."

APS Dynamics, Inc. specializes in designing, manufacturing and marketing vibration systems. The continuing objective of the company is to provide it's customers with innovative, reliable systems for generating controlled vibration in application fields which include modal test excitation, calibration and component test. The company's products are used primarily for modal test excitation and vibration sensor calibration. APS customers include major U.S. Government contractors, the US Department of Defense, NASA and other US Government Agencies, universities, research organizations, manufacturers and engineering firms worldwide.

SPEKTRA Schwingungstechnik und Akustik GmbH Dresden specializes in the development, production and support of Vibration, Shock & Acoustic Calibration Systems and Components. The company has developed a broad range of Calibration Systems, from very low frequency systems to high frequency systems, and both Primary systems and Secondary systems. These are fully automated systems that are ideal for facilities that process many calibrations each day as well as engineering and development testing. SPEKTRA's high frequency shakers and shock exciters are a complement to the low frequency shakers from the APS Dynamics product line. SPEKTRA is a well-known supplier of calibration systems to customers worldwide.
