ANSI Chosen to Implement U.S.-Africa Clean Energy Standards Program with USTDA

Public meeting to be held November 17 to gather input

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) was recently selected by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) to carry out the U.S.-Africa Clean Energy Standards Program (CESP), in partnership with Power Africa. USTDA helps companies create U.S. jobs through the export of U.S. goods and services for priority development projects in emerging economies.

Under the initiative, ANSI will coordinate an initial 4 workshops in Sub-Saharan Africa in 2016. Workshop topics will cover a wide range of technologies and challenges in the clean energy area, and ANSI will work with Power Africa, relevant industry associations, and USTDA to select the topics.

The initiative will provide a platform for industry to cooperate on the standardization issues relevant to clean energy technologies, and build the relationships necessary for further technical exchange. The project will also support Power Africa’s objectives of working with African stakeholders to connect more of the African population to the electricity grid.

“ANSI’s collaboration with USTDA and Power Africa is an excellent opportunity to contribute insights on ways to utilize and leverage standardization for a clean energy future,” said ANSI president and CEO S. Joe Bhatia. “We are proud to be part of this important partnership.”

To introduce the project, discuss opportunities to participate in the U.S.-Africa CESP and gather input regarding potential workshop topics, ANSI will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, November 17 at 10:00 am EST. The meeting will take place at ANSI’s Washington, DC headquarters: 1899 L Street NW, 11th Floor. Please RSVP to usafricacesp@ansi.org  by Monday, November 16.

Interested organizations are invited to join the meeting on November 17 and download the activity proposal template and commercial benefit questionnaire here, which includes the information that will be required by ANSI and USTDA for review of proposals.
