CSA Offers Tips for Safe Holiday Decorating

CSA Group, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has published a list of safety tips for families decorating with trees, animated displays, and indoor and outdoor lights this holiday season. Suggestions include:

• Turn off the electricity to the supply outlet and unplug the connection prior to working with outdoor wiring.

• Inspect old lights carefully for frayed or cracked cords, and discard any damaged materials.

• Keep candles and open flames away from flammable decorations such as wreaths, trees, and paper goods.

SAE Webinar to Address Advanced Driver Assistance Systems

SAE International, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, is hosting a webinar about advanced driver assistance systems (ADASs) and how vehicle dynamics have an impact on their development.

“Advanced Driver Assistance Systems” will be held on December 10 at 12:00pm EST. Attendees will learn about the development of ADASs, which help drivers avoid collisions in a variety of ways, including taking over control of the vehicle, automating lighting, providing adaptive cruise control, alerting drivers to dangers, keeping drivers in the correct lane, showing what is in blind spots, and more. The presentation will also cover the testing of ADASs through simulation, and the role of vehicle dynamics in ADAS development.

FEMA to Host Webinar on Preparing for Winter Storms

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is hosting a webinar on how to best prepare for winter storms and the holiday season. Presenters will discuss the winter seasonal outlook, driving safety, and the Winter Weather Safety Campaign. Attendees will also hear about holiday safety topics, including Christmas trees, cooking fires, electrical and candle fires, and New Year’s fireworks.

“’Tis the Season: Preparing for a Winter Storm and the Holidays” will be held on December 10 from 2:00-3:00pm EST. The session will include presenters from ANSI member the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the FEMA U.S. Fire Administration.

CEA is now the “Consumer Technology Association”

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) recently unveiled its new name – the Consumer Technology Association (CTA). The announcement and the association's new logo were revealed at CES Unveiled New York, a half-day event that offered a sneak peek at the year’s most innovative products and technologies two months before CES 2016, produced by the Consumer Technology Association.

“Our membership and the consumer technology sector have grown and evolved to engage almost every major industry segment and America’s burgeoning startup economy, touching almost every part of consumers’ lives," said CTA president and CEO Gary Shapiro. "Our new name – the Consumer Technology Association – more accurately represents this growth and the excitement and innovative spirit of the industry we represent."
