SAVE THE DATE: ANSI Announces Dates for World Standards Week 2009

U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day to be held in conjunction with WSW
New York

December 22, 2008

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has announced the dates for World Standards Week (WSW) 2009. The week of forums, meetings, and ceremonies will be held October 5-8, 2009 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

WSW is an annual occasion where members of the standards and conformity assessment community meet in the spirit of cooperation and collaboration. The series of events that take place during the week include meetings of several ANSI groups and committees, the 2009 ANSI Awards Banquet and Ceremony, and ANSI's Annual Business Meeting and Luncheon.

"For many years, World Standards Week has provided an opportunity for the diverse members of our community to come together, both to celebrate what we've achieved and to plan for future collaboration," said S. Joe Bhatia, ANSI president and CEO. "We look forward to welcoming ANSI members, stakeholders, and colleagues back to Bethesda for the 2009 series of events."

In conjunction with WSW, the U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day (WSD) will take place on October 7, 2009, in the Washington, DC area.

Celebrated annually, WSD serves to raise awareness of the importance of international standardization to the world economy and to promote its role in helping meet the needs of business, industry, government, and consumers worldwide. The global celebration is coordinated by the principal international standards organizations: the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The U.S. Celebration of WSD is organized annually by a planning committee consisting of representatives from across the standards and conformity assessment community. The event is co-chaired by ANSI and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). ASTM International serves as the 2009 administrating organization.

More details on WSW and WSD, including registration information, agendas, and accommodations, will be posted to ANSI's Events Page as they become available.
