The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) have released an agenda for the first meeting of the Nuclear Energy Standards Coordination Collaborative (NESCC), to be held on June 1, 2009.

NESCC is a joint initiative formed to identify and respond to the current needs of the nuclear industry. The new activity will provide a cross-stakeholder forum to facilitate and coordinate the timely identification, development, and revision of standards for the design, operation, development, licensing, and deployment of nuclear power plants. Standards for other nuclear technologies, including advanced reactor concepts, will also be addressed.

The meeting will take place on Monday, June 1, 2009, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the NIST headquarters in Gaithersburg, MD. Topics to be covered include:

Why a collaborative?

Review of the NESCC charter

NESCC organizational structure

Potential technical areas for task groups

Next steps

Ambler Thompson, Ph.D., of NIST and Frances Schrotter of ANSI will lead the group for the first half of the meeting; all attendees will be invited to contribute to the subsequent discussions on task groups and next steps.

All stakeholders are invited to participate, including standards developing organizations (SDOs), consortia and other forums, industry, government, and consumers. The event is free of charge, and attendance via teleconference will be available. Due to space limitations, advance registration is required for both in-person and teleconference participants.
