ANSI Accredits DOT Quality Services as First U.S. Certification Body to Offer ISO 3834 Certification

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI), coordinator of the U.S. voluntary standardization and conformity assessment system, is pleased to announce the first accreditation of a U.S. certification body offering certification under the International Organization for Standardization (ISO)’s ISO 3834 - Quality Requirements for Welding. The certification body, Illinois-based DOT Quality Services, was also certified to offer certification in connection with the welding of metallic materials, including arc welding and resistance welding.

ISO 3834 provides a method for manufacturers or fabricators to demonstrate that they have met relevant quality requirements related to welding. While organizations in Europe and Asia have been certified to offer certification under ISO 3834 for more than 10 years, DOT Quality Services is currently the first and only U.S. certification body to provide certification under this International Standard.

ANSI accreditation offers a formal, third-party process for review and recognition of certification programs. The international standard, ISO/IEC Guide 65, General requirements for bodies operating product certification systems, forms the cornerstone of ANSI’s accreditation process for product/process/services certification programs. ANSI’s portfolio of accreditation includes programs for a broad range of certification and verification bodies, including those for products, personnel, greenhouse gas emissions, as well as standards developers.
