New York - The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) invites all stakeholders interested in accessibility solutions for persons with disabilities to attend the Standards for Accessibility exhibition on Capitol Hill, to be held on September 24, 2010, in honor of the 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Sponsored by the U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day (WSD) Planning Committee, this event will feature exhibits from a number of standards developing organizations highlighting the role that standards play in achieving universal access for all populations.

This event is being held in conjunction with the U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day (WSD), which will take place on September 23, 2010, at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, DC.

The event is organized annually by a planning committee consisting of representatives from across the standards and conformity assessment community, and is co-chaired by ANSI and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). NFPA serves as the administrating organization for 2010.

Attendees will hear from featured speakers James Shannon, president and CEO of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA); Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI); and Congressman James Langevin (D-RI).

The different abilities and needs of people across the country have led to a myriad of accessibility issues and requirements in every industry. From technologies that are user-friendly for the deaf and blind communities, to physical environments that are accessible to persons with physical disabilities, to products that can be easily used by the elderly, accessibility solutions allow for the greatest number of people to enjoy many aspects of everyday life that may otherwise be unmanageable. Standards have a critical influence on accessibility across all industries and around the globe.

The Capitol Hill event will be held in the Cannon House Office Building Caucus Room on September 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A simple lunch will be served.
