Amerlux Recognized by DOE for Three NGL Indoor Solid-state Lighting Products at LightFair 2015
Company reaches milestone by earning prestigious recognition during past eight years
NEW YORK – Amerlux® was honored for three commercial LED indoor lighting products during the eighth annual Next Generation Luminaires (NGL) Solid-State Lighting Design Competition. MURRO LED Wall Wash, LINEA 1.5 Linear Direct/Indirect LED and FINO Ceiling LED received the awards for excellence and technological development, which were sponsored by the United States Department of Energy (DOE), the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) and the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) at LightFair International. The NGL Awards were launched in 2008 to encourage technical innovation and promote excellence in the design of energy-efficient LED luminaires for commercial, industrial, and institutional applications.

Winner of Outstanding Indoor Lighting Product for Efficacy (up to 105.7 lumens per watt), MURRO LED Wall Wash is a compact, passively cooled, track mounted wall wash available in 2000 delivered lumens or 3000 delivered lumens. The spacing ratio of 2:1 (e.g. 4 feet from wall, 8 feet on center) gets more light on the wall with fewer fixtures. Judges commended MURRO for "very high efficacy, nice aesthetic appearance and unique design, impressive dimming performance and good color quality."
Recognized in the category of Pendants, LINEA 1.5 Linear Direct/Indirect LED pairs with GRUV1.5 to be used for both recessed and pendant applications and can be specified in custom lengths. Delivering up to 3560 lumens with an efficacy of 95 lumens per watt, LINEA was complimented by the judges on its "sleek clean design, nice soft uplight distribution and good glare control on a small lens."
Recognized in the categories of Wall Wash and Downlights, FINO Ceiling LED is a 5/8-inch shallow, ceiling mounted wall wash, which runs seamlessly across ceilings without interfering with the studs while creating a beautiful visual impression. With engineered optics that deliver 630-plus lumens per foot onto the vertical surface, FINO was acclaimed by the judges who "loved the look and creative design of its minimalistic appearance and great thin profile."
"It's not an easy feat to achieve NGL recognition," said DOE Solid-State Lighting Program Manager James Brodrick. "The judges are a tough-minded bunch who look for every flaw imaginable and don't issue their stamp of approval lightly."
About The 2015 NGL Competition
The 2015 NGL Competition combined the indoor and outdoor solid-state lighting product announcements, as well as designating 12 of the selected entries as "Outstanding" in one or more evaluation categories. Reflecting changes according to the evolution of solid-state lighting technology, all winning products have beat NGL's threshold efficacy by 10 to 40 percent with threshold levels raised each year to keep pace with data from LED Lighting Facts and the DesignLights Consortium® (DLC). Lumen maintenance scores show that more than 80 percent of the indoor solid-state lighting winners demonstrated lumen maintenance above LM80 at 50,000 hours, and more than 50 percent of outdoor lighting entries demonstrated L95 at 50,000 hours.
NGL was established to make it easier for lighting designers and specifiers to find LED lighting products that are worthy of specification. The panel of 18 judges, who hail from the architectural lighting community, based their scores on color, illuminance, light distribution, serviceability, value, dimming control, and appearance- with lumen maintenance and luminous efficacy ratings based on LM79, LM80, and TM21 data submitted to DOE's LED Lighting Facts program by the manufacturers.
