ANSI/AMCA 230, "Laboratory Methods of Testing Air Circulating Fans for Rating and Certification"

Solicitation for Review Committee Volunteers

Arlington Heights, IL, USA- The Air Movement and Control Association (AMCA) International, Inc. is seeking volunteers to serve on the AMCA 230 Review Committee. If you are interested or know of someone that may be interested, please contact Joe Brooks (jbrooks@amca.org), at AMCA headquarters by August 30, 2010.

ANSI AMCA 230-07 describes a laboratory method of test for air circulating fans. Circulating fans are defined as fans used for moving air within a space, and which are unconnected to any ducting, and are usually without a housing. The standard is approaching its periodic review period. Comments have been made indicating that the use of thrust for circulator fan performance has been criticized because it is not a commonly accepted metric for performance. Users are generally accustomed to volumetric
airflow rate as the key indicator.

Committee members would be expected to participate in the drafting, review and resolution of any and all comments on the standard until the revised standard is approved by ANSI as an American National Standard. Most, and possibly all, meetings will be via conference call. Once the technical committee is formed and approved by the AMCA International Board of Directors, it is anticipated that the work could
be completed in six months.
