- SPECHT 600 DUO for finish machining in mass production

Eislingen - MAG extends its product portfolio for the component business and complements its range of products and services for the production significantly. "With the spotlight on these two segments, we invite our trade visitors to a technologically fascinating tour of the MAG booth 2014" said Dr. Manfred Berger, Executive Vice President Global Sales.

High performance CNC machining center SPECHT 500 DUO+ for the component market

The SPECHT family is renowned for its use in serial production, where durability, precision and productivity are required at the highest level. MAG presents its dual spindle machining center SPECHT 500 DUO+ with pallet changer as a world premiere. The widely-known top performance of the machine in system use will now be available to component manufacturers in a single machine as well.

Precious productive times are provided by the fastest tool changer. The smart axis arrangement (z-axis with work piece, x- and y-axes on the tool side), following the jig boring machine principle, ensures top quality of the work piece and makes it possible to use long tools and boring bars.

Machines offered to component manufacturers by MAG include XG for CV-joint manufacturing, XK for cold-rolling technology, the multi-spindle transfer center XT and besides the single spindle machine series SPECHT 500 to 800 with pallet swapper now also the dual spindle center type SPECHT 500 DUO+.

The dual spindle MAG center (X/Y/Z: 630/730/900 mm) in B-, A- or A-/B-axis machine configuration can be compensated in all axes and guarantees highest machining quality through the independent axis of both spindles in parallel operation. The unique design of the working area of SPECHT series machines supports wet, dry or MQL machining. Compared to wet machining, dry machining with minimal quantity lubrication minimizes the already optimized energy consumption and, in addition, particle and noise emissions of the machine tool - consequently combining MAG's excellence in the fields of ergonomics, economics and quality.

Spare parts from MAG's Online Shop

Dedicated and professional handling of the production line supports the long service life of products from an automotive system supplier like MAG, whose modern electronic training system "MAG e-learning" is successfully used by both operators and maintenance specialists alike.

MAG now offers a web shop for the procurement of parts. At the touch of a button you will get all the information on availability and price. A key advantage: if you do not know the part number, the desired part can also be found by using its drawing number. Setting up an account at the ordering portal is open not only to MAG customers, but also to industrial clients requiring spare parts for their machines promptly. Access to spare parts for more than 50 machine brands and to more than 1.5 million articles is available from all around the world and around the clock.

Not only is the variety of available article unique to the machine market, but you will find the delivery service just as convincing. In case of urgent need, you can choose either "Express Delivery" or "Immediate Delivery" (outside business hours) and the component part will already be available on the following day. Idle times can thus be reduced to a bearable level with the added benefit of using modern media in a future-oriented way. Another step forward in the struggle against unproductive times in production (www.mag-parts.de).

Overhauling and retrofitting of existing valuable industrial assets

When transfer lines and special machines are concerned, continuous retrofitting activities have been a daily occurrence during the life of the machine. The comprehensive and widespread utilization of CNC machines in volume manufacturing facilitates in most cases work piece modifications by plain reprogramming. While in the early years of agile manufacturing, machining centers were recycled after production discontinuation, today's CNC machines see several changes in work piece types during their life in volume manufacturing.

When losing its precision after being in use for ten or fifteen years, the question arises whether to overhaul or to retrofit the machine completely. The machine will be available and operational again at a significantly lower price than when procuring a new one and within a shorter time frame.

The machine gets a complete technical and technological update from retrofit, right through to the replacement of its control equipment. MAG machines from the automotive sector, branded with CROSS, HÃœLLER, HÃœLLER HILLE, EX-CELL-O, LAMB, HONSBERG and BOEHRINGER, still count as valuable industrial assets, even after many years of use.

Today, this extensive business area of complete overhauling with technologically up-to-date equipment within a new system environment is made possible by the reconfigurability of installations.

At AMB fair, we will demonstrate the capabilities of this MAG business area with the results from retrofitting a BOEHRINGER 250 C turning center and their exemplification on the object.

MAG technology highlights for fine machining of standard parts

During the past two years, honing on MAG CNC machines has been well received by the market. The combination of fine boring of cylinder bores and position honing in one setting delivers compelling results while assuring high flexibility.

The increase in engine projects with coated cylinder bores require new technological processes like activating the fine-bored cylinder wall before coating and fine-boring of the coated cylinder bore as a pre-machining for honing. MAG, in cooperation with STURM group, offers a turnkey-solution as a bypass for existing installations or complete new systems for cylinder blocks with coated running surfaces. MAG and its partners are also able to offer spray-bore technology APS and RSW (improved PTWA process).

The significant advantages of hard fine milling of crankshafts as a substitution for rough-grinding have been confirmed as most economical alternative for shaft machining in serial production.

BOEHRINGER 250 T series and its horizontal configuration were complemented by the new series with its vertical spindle for lathe cells. Both machine models can be used for precision hard machining with large wiper edges as a grinding substitute. Cold rolling of shafts and fitting of gears, grooves and threads exemplify MAG's new technologies for cost-efficient machining of complex geometries.
