CHICAGO - The Association for Laboratory Automation (ALA), a multi-disciplinary, non-profit scientific society serving diverse industries and technology sectors, released today the results of the 2008 State of Industrial Laboratory Automation on LabAutopedia(TM).

ALA recently conducted a survey of laboratory automation system providers and industrial users, as a detailed follow-up to its 2006 survey on the state of industrial laboratory automation. In many cases, similar questions were posed to compare the focus and priorities of automation users versus providers. The results are being presented on ALA's online knowledge network: LabAutopedia. A detailed article with editorial commentary from both the vendor and user community will be published later in 2009 in the association's scientific peer-reviewed publication, Journal for the Association for Laboratory Automation (JALA).

To access the survey results, go to labautomation.org/labautopedia.

"Laboratory automation development is being increasingly outsourced to the commercial market," said Steve Hamilton, Sanitas Consulting, Boulder, CO. "So, the intuitive question is: How are we getting lab automation done today and what lies ahead? The responses we received shed some light on the future of laboratory automation."

The Association for Laboratory Automation is a worldwide organization representing leaders in all aspects of laboratory automation. ALA seeks to provide a greater understanding of the importance and value of automation technologies in laboratory settings, to advance science and promote education related to laboratory automation by encouraging the study, advancing the science and improving the practice of laboratory automation. One of the primary vehicles through which ALA seeks to fulfill this mission is LabAutomation, the annual conference and exhibition held each January in Palm Springs, CA, USA.
