AirLoc 700 Series Damping Pads Provide Wind Turbine Noise Reduction

AirLoc damping pads were selected to be used in a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (shown below) mounted on top of a Just Goods store building in Rockford, IL. The VAWT has (5) 12 ft. blades, 10 ft. diameter, and 18 ft. total height. There were issues with the vibration produced by the generator which traveled down the support structure into steel roof members, causing objectionable noise in the building. AirLoc 725 damping pad with iso-washers (shown below) were installed between the generator base and support base attached to the roof. Len Salvig, who oversaw the installation, commented "we are very pleased with the dampening of the noise" and reported that 50-60% reduction was achieved. Len plans to apply 700 series pad to support struts to gain further reduction of noise.
