Registration Authority for ISO/IEC 29160 RFID Emblem Announced
Cranberry Township, PA - AIM, the industry association recognized as the worldwide authority on automatic identification and mobility, has been appointed by the International Organization of Standards (ISO) as the registration authority for the RFID Emblem. The Emblem was designed, vetted, and submitted to ISO for consideration by AIM's RFID Experts Group (REG). The standard was reviewed, enhanced and adopted as ISO/IEC 29160 Information technology - Radio frequency identification for item management -- RFID Emblem. Publication had been on hold pending the appointment of a Registration Authority.
ISO/IEC 29160 (RFID Emblem) provides a visible identification method for RFID transponders, interrogators, and tagged items. Visible signs inform consumers whether an item or product contains an RFID tag. Therefore, this meets one of the main requirements for consumer privacy protection.
The RFID Emblem is a public-domain object intended to augment rather than replace other emblems and logos such as recycling and CE. The RFID Emblem requires no fee for use nor does it have any membership or other use restriction or requirement, other than compliance with ISO/IEC 29160.
This standard includes an RFID Index, a two-character code which can be included in the RFID Emblem graphic, which provides specific information about compliant tags and interrogator/encoders.
ISO/IEC 29160 (RFID Emblem) has been approved and publication is complete. The ISO/IEC document was derived from (and supersedes) the original AIM RFID Emblem document.
