Agilent Technologies Introduces Comprehensive Low-Power DDR2 Compliance and Protocol Test Tools

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today introduced the industry's most comprehensive low-power double data rate 2 (LPDDR2) compliance and protocol test application packages and industry-first LPDDR2 ball-grid array (BGA) probes. In addition to accelerating the turn-on and debug of LPDDR2-based systems, these tools give engineers an efficient way to ensure their LPDDR2 designs will interoperate with other LPDDR2 components.

The Agilent N5413B LPDDR2 test application, which runs on Agilent Infiniium 9000 Series and 90000 Series oscilloscopes, provides LPDDR2 physical-layer compliance measurements. The Agilent B4623A LPDDR2 bus decoder and the B4622A DDR protocol compliance tool, which run on the Agilent 16900 Series logic analyzers, provide debug and protocol compliance measurements. Compliance tests are based on the Joint Electronic Device Engineering Council (JEDEC) JESD2092 Low-Power Double Data Rate 2 Specification. Signal access is provided by Agilent's industry-first LPDDR2 BGA probes.

LPDDR2 technology allows engineers to design consumer electronic devices that consume less power, a critical requirement for mobile computing applications. The increased memory density defined in the standard also allows designers to reduce their device's package size.

The Agilent LPDDR2 compliance and protocol test applications are designed for engineers who work on consumer electronic designs such as mobile devices and gaming consoles. The N5413B provides automated testing capability for all clock, electrical and timing tests, with 100 percent test coverage as specified in the JESD209-2 specification. The N5413B LPDDR2 application automatically configures the oscilloscope for each test and generates a HTML report at the end of the test. The report compares the results with the specification test limit and indicates how closely the device passes or fails each test.

Engineers can easily debug signal integrity issues using the N5413B software in conjunction with the new InfiniiScan multichannel and multizone triggering scope features. The software uses these capabilities to set up the scope to separate the read and write signals. Using this method is more convenient than using multiple digital channels for command bus triggering to separate read and write commands. This unique InfiniiScan feature is available only with 9000 and 90000 Series oscilloscopes.

Using the B4622A protocol tool and the B4623A bus decoder in conjunction with Agilent 16962A logic analyzer modules enables engineers to analyze the logical flow of LPDDR2 bus traffic and execute protocol compliance tests. In addition to providing reliable data capture on the 16962A, Agilent's industry-first DDR Eyefinder and DDR Eyescan tools provide engineers with signal integrity insight across all LPDDR2 signals using only a single measurement. Designers can rapidly identify the highest risks lines from a signal integrity perspective, and cross trigger the 9000 or 90000 Series oscilloscopes to rapidly debug their designs.

To complete the LPDDR2 solutions, Agilent offers LPDDR2 BGA probing solutions to provide LPDDR2 signal accessibility to perform physical layer characterization, protocol analysis and compliance tests. The N5413B LPDDR2 compliance test integrates InfiniiSim tools to enable de-embedding for removing probing effects and thereby improving measurement accuracy.

"Our new LPDDR2 solution for physical and protocol layer characterization offers engineers probing and analysis advantages," said Jay Alexander, vice president and general manager of Agilent's oscilloscopes business. "By integrating the InfiniiScan trigger tool for read and write separation, and the InfiniiSim de-embed tool for removing probing effects, we help engineers turn on and debug their LPDDR2-based systems faster and make it easier for them to ensure their devices are LPDDR2 compliant."
