AAMA Updates Procedural Guide for Window and Door Certification

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - AAMA 103-07, a procedural guide for certification of windows and doors, has been released by the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA). According to Dean Lewis, AAMA certification manager, the revamped 25-page document, titled Procedural Guide for Certification of Window and Door Assemblies and first published in 1963, includes several updates.

AAMA 103-07 details the process for certification of windows and doors for air-water-structural and thermal product certification and includes sections on administration, labeling, waiver of retest, engineering design rules, plant quality control requirements, abbreviated guide for accredited labs, and auxiliary test procedures, per Lewis.

"In addition to various editorial changes, Section 1.8, Program Oversight, now requires that the AAMA Certification Policy Committee specify dates of implementation for all revisions to program policy; that representatives of record for the appropriate program or program function, along with the AAMA Voting Representative (if applicable), be notified within 10 business days; and that Licensee conformance be verified during plant and lab inspections," according to Lewis.

Section 2.0, Engineering Design Rules, was removed and now cites the newly created AAMA 2502, Comparative Analysis Procedure for Window and Door Products, as guidance. Section 4.0, Guide for Laboratories Approved for the AAMA Certification Program, was also removed and the requirements of AAMA LAP-1, Laboratory Accreditation Program Operations Manual are now required. The Auxiliary Test Procedures, Section 5.0, was removed and indicates to "refer directly to the auxiliary test requirements for the specific product as required by the edition of AAMA/(NWWDA)WDMA 101/I.S. 2 or AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S. 2/A440 to which the product is to be tested for certification."
