A New "Hybrid" Cut-to-Length Line Combines the Processing of Stainless Steel and Aluminum

GEORG finishing lines division highlights the chances of hybrid development in industry sector

With the successful final acceptance of the GEORG-cut-to-length line for production of sheets out of stainless steel and aluminum the fabrication at SAUTER EDELSTAHL AG is ready to start. The company is one of the leading service companies in Switzerland in the field of aluminum, stainless steel, sheets, tubes, steel bars, fittings and food valves. The investment in the new line supports them with an extended in-house production of flat products. At the same time a higher flexibility for customer inquiries can be reached.

Both companies, GEORG and SAUTER EDELSTAHL AG, are fully in line with the trend of the product combination of aluminum and stainless steel in only one line. There is an increased demand of new lines for this special combination. Also older lines are able to be modernized so that they can produce this particular product mixture. "Our hybrid-lines meet this requirement in a perfect way" (Antonio Garcia, managing director finishing lines division - member of the board).

Combination to be efficient

This GEORG cut-to-length line is designed for a strip width up to 2,000 mm and a thickness up to 5.00 mm. Coils with a weight of 25 to can be processed with a speed of 60 m/ min. With a continuous eccentric cutting shear the efficient cut-to-length of the strip is realized. The economic benefit is that no additional loop pit is needed. Specialized equipment To meet the requirements for a combined line to cut aluminum and stainless steel the GEORG- cut-to-length line is provided with special technical characteristics. A paper unwinder positioned at the decoiler and a paper rewinder located in front of the cut-to-length shear are installed. Moreover a levelling unit in cassette change design is applied in this line. The levelling unit consists of three levelling cassettes which are stored on a change car for automatic exchange.

With this equipment the special material properties and the huge thickness range can be covered and an optimal straightening result is provided. Even here a benefit in cases of efficiency is ensured: The change procedure for the automatic levelling cassettes takes only about 15 minutes without using the hall crane.

For stacking the sensitive plates a vacuum stacker with two combinable stacking positions is installed. This stacker is characterized by a very quietly operation and careful stacking of the sheets. At the outfeed of the line the corresponding packaging section with an automatic strapping machine for crosswise strapping and a separate scrap car is embedded.
