A new era in sheetfed offset begins for Packages Limited

A KBA Rapida with six inking units, coater and delivery extension went live in March at Packages Limited in Lahore, the second-largest city in Pakistan. This high performance press marks the beginning of a new era in sheetfed offset for the prominent packaging printer.

Packages Limited was founded in 1956 as a result of a joint venture between the Pakistani Ali Group and Akerlund & Rausing from Sweden. Within the field of premium packaging the company covers the entire process chain and offers value-added solutions to regional and international firms. Among its customers are renowned firms, such as Unilever and Pakistan Tobacco Company which has worked with Packages Limited for over 50 years. Some 1,500 staff generate annual sales of approx. Euros101m ($141m).

The KBA Rapida 106, which is raised by 450mm (17.7in) for the production of packaging, is equipped with a board-handling package and has been installed in a cutting-edge production hall. The press is kitted out with features ensuring fast job changes, such as automatic plate changing, CleanTronic washing units as well as coating feed and cleaning systems for aqueous coating. KBA VariDry-IR/TA dryers can be found in the delivery and delivery extension. Press presetting data from the prepress is sent to the ErgoTronic console with wall screen via LogoTronic CIPLinkX.

Packages Limited aims to strengthen its competiveness further with this highly productive Rapida 106. The company has been a trendsetter in the development of new forms of packaging for many years. An example of this is the use of wheat straw as a raw material for board.
