A Continuing Lift Truck Education

MHEDA profiles Danny Ross, a budding powerhouse in the industrial truck industry.

Dewitt, NY: The Fourth Quarter 2010 issue of The MHEDA Journal (http://www.TheMhedaJournal.org), the leading online magazine for the forklift, conveyor, storage & handling, and general material handling equipment industries, spotlights material handling industry up-and-comer Danny Ross, manager of the College Station branch of ESS Group, a loading dock and door distributor headquartered in Brenham, Texas.

The 25-year-old Ross started calling on customers as a student in Texas A&M's Industrial Distribution program, when he would go on sales calls with his father, company president Jeff Ross, and grandfather. Danny Ross now oversees a staff of two technicians and installers and an administrative person. "As the only salesperson in this office, I'm on the road quite a bit," Ross says. "I love going to customer sites, dealing with people and seeing all the different applications for material handling equipment. It's a rare day when I see the same thing twice, and I really like that part of the job."

Ross believes that communication and organizational skills are the cornerstones of success as a salesperson. "A good salesperson also has to be a good listener. Don't just hear what you want to hear. Accountability is the best way to earn a customer's trust," he says.

These are only a few pieces of advice Danny Ross gives in the Executive Profile written for the Fourth Quarter 2010 issue of The MHEDA Journal.
