State-of-the-art digital automation solution reflects emphasis on efficiency in China's growing industrial sector

AUSTIN, TEXAS - Emerson Process Management has been selected to provide the process automation system for Yunnann Chihong Zinc & Germanium Co., Ltd.'s Yunnan Huize lead and zinc processing plant. The plant in Yunnan Province, China, produces 100,000 tons of zinc and 60,000 tons of lead per year, and the company plans to expand smelting capacity to 1,000,000 tons in the next five years. The new automation system will help improve smelting efficiency and reduce energy consumption in the lead ISA furnace process and zinc pyrometallurgy process, as well as efficiency in sulfur dioxide emission control and waste heat recovery.

Emerson will provide a state-of-the-art control solution that includes its DeltaV(TM) digital automation system with DeltaV S-Series hardware, AMS Suite asset management software, and smart field devices using FOUNDATION fieldbus and IEC 62591 (WirelessHART®) communications technology. AMS Suite will provide predictive field diagnostics to enable early detection of potential issues and proactive maintenance planning. Using wireless technology to monitor multiple hearth furnaces will eliminate the extensive cabling that would normally be required, reducing engineering complexity for the project.

These technological capabilities, combined with Emerson's extensive automation expertise in metals and mining industries were the key reasons Yunnan Chihong Zn & Ge selected Emerson for the company's largest non-ferrous project in this industry.

"We need the best system and proven technology to improve our factory's automation level, ensuring plant-wide efficiency and high asset availability," said Yan Yong, Director of Information Technology, Yunnan Chihong Zn & Ge. "We also wanted to reduce maintenance costs with smart devices' predictive diagnostics. Emerson presented the most comprehensive solution to these needs."

"We have established a strong working relationship with Yunnan Chihong Zn & Ge over the past several years, and this project moves us a step further in laying a solid foundation for strategic partnership." said SweeChee Lee, Vice President & General Manager, Emerson Process Management China.

The DeltaV digital automation system helps improve process manufacturing operations by harnessing today's predictive technologies in an easy, intuitive, and interoperable way to connect people, processes, and production. To learn more about the DeltaV system, go to www.deltav.com
