Panel Calls for the Urgent Need to Better Fuel the Biotechnology Pipeline with a Diverse Workforce

2012 BIO International Convention 2012 BIO International Convention:Biotechnology Industry Organization WASHINGTON--Thought leaders of industry, education, and government will gather to discuss fostering and recruiting a more diverse workforce in the biotechnology industry at the Diversity Summit, a special program on Monday, June 18 at 3:00 p.m. The event will be featured at the 2012 BIO International Convention, the global event for biotechnology, taking place June 18-21, 2012 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in Boston, MA.

"A more diverse scientific workforce, racially and ethnically, will help to insure that the full potential of talent for discovery and innovation in America will be developed, strengthening our scientific disciplines and enhancing discovery, leading to greater economic prosperity and to healthier lives for Americans and others around the world." The 2012 Diversity Summit - Fueling our Industry Pipeline: An Eye on Education will consist of a panel of experts discussing the importance of recruiting and fostering a diverse workforce in the biotechnology field.

"Minority citizens, including Blacks, Hispanics and Native Americans have not enjoyed the fullest opportunity to contribute to, and benefit from, our robust array of national and international activities, including the sciences and the health professions," said Dr. Louis W. Sullivan, Former Secretary of Health and Human Services, President Emeritus, Morehouse School of Medicine. "A more diverse scientific workforce, racially and ethnically, will help to insure that the full potential of talent for discovery and innovation in America will be developed, strengthening our scientific disciplines and enhancing discovery, leading to greater economic prosperity and to healthier lives for Americans and others around the world."

With this in mind, the Diversity Summit panel will discuss these issues, examine where we are today and propose strategies for improvement.
