Woodbridge Developing Next Generation Green Technologies for the Automotive Industry

MISSISSAUGA, Ontaria, -- The Woodbridge Group® has long been recognized as a world leader in developing innovative material and product solutions that offer automotive manufacturers improvements in performance, cost, weight and environmental stewardship. GreenLite(TM), BioFoam(TM) and RecycledFoam(TM) are currently used by a number of OEMs in a range of vehicles, to provide improved environmental performance. Today, Woodbridge announced efforts to develop a new family of automotive interior products that contain an alternative source of recycled materials.

From the early 90s, Woodbridge has offered recycled content through the use of ground rubber and other materials through its patented EcoStream(TM) technology. Recent market advancements in improving recycling capabilities and on-going research efforts by Woodbridge has led to Woodbridge working on a new generation of products that contain material sourced from end-of-life tire materials. This approach would represent a significant opportunity to provide an industry closed-loop recycled material for use in certain automotive interior components.

According to Dr. Hamdy Khalil, Global Director of Research and Development, "Woodbridge continues to pioneer new ways to offer improved levels of environmental performance, including the use of renewable and recycled materials that come from various sources. This effort to develop a family of automotive interior products that would contain ground rubber from used tires complements our existing work in offering products with recycled polyols and polyols manufactured in part from renewable biomass sources. With this new generation of mechanically processed ground rubber technology, Woodbridge looks to offer the automotive industry a new and innovative approach, towards meeting environmental objectives while responding to market demand."

The Woodbridge Group® maintains its commitment to the environment and to commercializing clean technology solutions. As part of its stewardship under the GreenLite(TM) Environmental Technologies initiative and through collaboration with its customers, Woodbridge continues to pioneer and validate sustainable solutions, at equal or better performance and cost than traditional materials.
