(Seattle, WA)-Utah's Legacy Parkway project near Salt Lake City has cut the average rush hour commute by almost 30 minutes.

In Oklahoma, when a massive landslide sent 500 feet of State Highway 20 down a hillside the road was reopened in just 38 days.

These outstanding examples of transportation construction are among eight winning projects from six western states to receive regional awards at the Western Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Annual Meeting in Seattle on Monday.
The projects were judged in three categories: On Time, On Budget, and Innovative Management. Each winning project is now contending for the America's Transportation Awards Grand Prize, to be presented this fall.

"These quality projects and this competition send out a positive message of transportation at its best," said John Horsley, executive director of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials. "It is clear that state DOTs are making wise investments in transportation projects that are paying big dividends today and they'll continue to do so for years to come.
