Press release date: August 21, 2012

Siemens Industry Automation Division announced today that it has signed an agreement with WesTech Engineering, Inc. to sell the conventional water treatment business that includes the Microfloc and General Filter product portfolios. Headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, WesTech engineers and manufactures process equipment and working solutions for water, wastewater and industrial applications. The purchase price was not disclosed.

The agreement includes all active projects, associated assets and liabilities, inventory, and associated patents and trademarks, as well as the facility in Ames, Iowa, USA. Sixty-two active employees dedicated to this business will transition to WesTech.

"The Microfloc and General Filter product lines are solid businesses with excellent employees, a rich history, and strong brand recognition," says Dr. Lukas Loeffler, CEO Water Technologies, Siemens Industry Automation Division. "But these products are not a fit with our focus on portfolio differentiation, which is a key driver of our business overall."

As with the recent divestiture of several of its disinfection product lines, this latest sale reflects Siemens Water Technologies' ongoing assessment of its portfolio, processes and operations and alignment of its municipal strategy with long-term business objectives.

"General Filter and Microfloc are both well-respected water treatment product portfolios and represent an important strategic acquisition for WesTech," says Rex Plaizier, WesTech President. "They have extensive installations throughout the United States, and their product lines complement WesTech's own in a way that provides municipalities with the most comprehensive solution to their water treatment needs."

Founded in 1973, WesTech Engineering, Inc. is an employee-owned company that specializes in the design and manufacture of process equipment for municipal water and wastewater treatment as well as industrial and minerals processing. The company now has more than 500 employees with offices in the United States, Brazil, China, India and South Africa.
