Press release date: November 1, 2012
Weir Minerals Africa is experiencing significant growth across the SADC region and expects this will continue into 2013. With sound business ethics and goal driven strategies, the company intends to continue to increase its business in the next five years.
"Our success in the SADC region can be attributed to a number of factors," explains John West, Weir Minerals Africa regional manager for the SADC countries. "The company's values are deeply rooted within every Weir Minerals Africa team member. We are goal driven; provide a professional and cost effective service and work hard to establish and build relationships with our current and potential customers. This means solving any problem, any time, even in the most remote locations," West continues.
The SADC countries in which Weir Minerals Africa is active include Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia with a support team based in South Africa.
Mozambique While Weir Minerals Africa has a well established footprint in Mozambique, particularly in mineral sands, West believes the country still holds vast opportunity for growth. "Having a local presence is the key to success, so we are in the process of establishing a branch in Maputo. We will continue to focus on servicing the steadily growing mineral sands sector and have identified the coal, sugar and oil and gas industries as new business generators."
"Our relationships with all our customers are built and developed on the excellent service delivery we provide. This is, and remains, an important strategic focus for the entire company," West points out.
Zimbabwe "Weir Minerals Africa's business in Zimbabwe has increased significantly since 2009, as a result of our reliable reputation for quality equipment and service." Through the company's branch and service centre in Bulawayo, it supplies multiple equipment ranges directly to site including pumps, cyclones, valves, rubber linings and hoses.
"We have supplied equipment to all the major mining operations and look forward to the industry's future growth which will, in turn, see our business grow as well," West adds.
Angola "We consider Angola an important country with ample opportunity for work. The government has indicated its intention to develop all of the country's minerals sectors, in addition to the well developed diamond and oil and gas industries," West says.
The company will establish local representation in the country by aligning itself with an Angola-based company whose equipment and service values and ethics are similar to its own. "We will invest in the resources and/or facilities to service industries properly, wherever we are needed," West points out.
West is excited about the future for Weir Minerals Africa across Mozambique, Angola and Zimbabwe. Their financial achievements have delivered well over the budgeted targets for 2012.
Botswana The company has a fully fledged branch in Botswana with the entire range of sales and service capabilities. "Through our local branch and staff complement, we provide the platform to service clients' needs quickly and effectively."
The company has numerous major mining customers in the country and recently supplied pumps to a new diamond project. "We also supplied froth pumps and mill liners from Australia to a new copper project," West mentions.
Namibia "Weir Minerals Africa's Namibian branch is undoubtedly our current SADC flagship branch. It has grown tremendously over the last three years on the back of a buoyant uranium industry. Our service level agreements and unified team approach will ensure that we continue to partner with our customers to deliver the best products and services required to minimize their cost of ownership."
"I am also passionate about developing our employees. Empowered staff members excel and deliver on the company's strategic growth objectives," West concludes.
