Press release date: August 25, 2011

ROCKFORD, IL - Rockford Systems, Inc. announces the addition of a Flow Mach 3 Waterjet machine to their 40-year-old family-owned business. Rockford Systems now offers waterjet cutting services to consumers as well as enhancing their own production capabilities for the products they sell in the machine safeguarding industry,

With a 6' by 10' machine bed, the possibilities are almost limitless, cutting materials from .015" to 5" thick. Accuracy of the machine can be controlled by the speed at which the 60,000 PSI jet moves across the parts. It can produce a cut as rough as a flame-cut up to a smooth, finished surface on a wide variety of materials from rubber and plastics, to aluminum and hardened steels. With a cutting kerf of only .040" wide, multiple pieces can be cut from a single larger piece with minimal material waste reducing material costs for their customers. Rockford will source materials for cutting or will cut customer-supplied materials.

User comments about this story

Water jet cutting is a process used to cut materials using a jet of pressurized water as high 60,000 pounds per square inch (psi). Often, the water is mixed with an abrasive like garnet that enables more materials to be cut cleanly to close tolerances, squarely and with a good edge finish. Water jets are capable of cutting many industrial materials including stainless steel, titanium, aluminum, tool steel, ceramics, granite, and armor plate. This process generates significant noise.
