By focusing on the needs of small businesses, Wasp racks up impressive revenue growth, profitability over the last three years
PLANO, Texas - August 28, 2007 - Further proving that small business is the engine of the U.S. economy, Wasp Barcode Technologies was ranked in the first-ever Inc. 5,000 list of the fastest-growing private companies in the country. The Inc. 5,000, an extension of Inc. magazine's annual Inc. 500 list, recognizes a broader range of companies that have achieved significant growth. This includes smaller firms and successful businesses in industry segments typically overlooked by the business media.
The 2007 Inc. 5,000 list measures revenue growth from 2003 through 2006. During that time period, Wasp achieved an annual growth rate of 87 percent, which earned a ranking of 3,454 on the list. In addition, Wasp was slated the 87th fastest-growing private company in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area.
"We're in the middle of the biggest entrepreneurial surge the United States has ever seen," said Steve Coffman, president of Wasp Barcode Technologies. "Catering to the specific needs of small businesses gives Wasp significant growth opportunities, now and in the years ahead. By providing these entrepreneurial companies with easy-to-use, affordable solutions, we are helping them to compete and win every day."
More than 80 percent of Wasp customers have fewer than 250 employees, and half employ between five and 99. These firms have grown to rely on the Wasp brand for productivity solutions including asset and inventory tracking, time and attendance, point-of-sale systems and barcode scanners.
To further drive its efficiency and profitability, Wasp leverages a broad channel strategy to ensure its products are on store shelves, online at direct catalog resellers and available through thousands of VARs in local communities across the nation. In addition, the company focuses on cost-effective Internet marketing strategies to drive demand and create interest among the small business market.
To qualify for the Inc. 5,000 list, companies had to be based in the United States, independent and privately held, and have at least $200,000 in revenue in 2003 and $2 million in 2006. Complete information on this year's Inc. 5,000 can be found at www.inc.com/inc5000.
