WAC Lighting's Sol Organic LED Chandelier Accepted by IES Progress Report

Garden City, New York - WAC Lighting President Shelley Wald announced that its Sôl(TM) Organic LED Chandelier has been accepted by the IES (Illuminating Engineering Society) for its 2011 Progress Report, and recognized as a product that reflects significant developments and improvements in the lighting industry.

Created by a committee of more than 30 representatives from leading manufacturers and design firms, the IES Progress Report is the result of hundreds of lighting product evaluations. Selected for its uniqueness, innovation, and significance within the lighting industry, Sôl(TM) was one of approximately 150 products recognized from submissions within all categories of the lighting industry.

"We are proud that Sol was selected by the IES for its significant development in the art and science of lighting," stated Ms. Wald. "This accolade is very exciting and inspires us to continue our extensive research and development of new lighting technologies."

The IES Progress Committee formally recognized WAC's OLED Chandelier at the 2011 IES Annual Conference in Austin, Texas. The 2011 IES Progress Report is now posted on the IES website and is featured in the January 2012 issue of Lighting Design + Application (LD+A) magazine.

Sol(TM) utilizes Orbeos OLED (Organic LEDs) panels from Osram Opto Semiconductors and delivers 420 lumens. Seven remarkably thin (2.1 millimeters) OLED panels employ the world's most revolutionary nanotechnology to distribute white light with optimal color rendering (CRI 80) and a color temperature of 3900K.

The chandelier offers adjustable light distribution for ambient mood lighting, free of undesirable shadows or glare. Each OLED panel is completely cool to the touch, inviting consumers to experience this new technology. Circular satellite OLED panels rotate up for indirect lighting, and tilt down to comfortably illuminate the surface below or faces around a table, while the central downlight provides directional lighting. The OLED panels do not require the use of any additional lenses or reflectors to diffuse the light, which traditionally results in a 10 to 40 percent loss in efficiency.

Sôl(TM) is inherently sustainable, designed around energy efficient and environmentally friendly technology in WAC's wholly owned, Clean ISO 9001/14001-certified manufacturing campus with in-house U.L. certified testing labs. The chandelier is crafted of aluminum and finished in black nickel, without the use of heavy metals or other rare-earth materials commonly used in other energy-efficient sources.

About the IES

The IES (Illuminating Engineering Society) builds upon a century of excellence to create the premier lighting community dedicated to promoting the art and science of quality lighting to its members, allied professional organizations, and the public. 25% of the membership is involved in manufacturing; 25% is composed of lighting designers and architects; and the remaining 50% is composed of consultants, electrical and building contractors, distributors, wholesalers, and lighting professionals, including those working for utilities, energy services, government and education.

Over one thousand members serve on committees, most serving on the Society's document development committees. These committees develop standards, design guides, technical memoranda, lighting energy management materials, guidelines and lighting measurement, testing and calculation guides.
