Cost Effective Connectivity and Collaboration Tools Drive Higher Level of Productivity and Efficiency

MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 16 /Vital Images, Inc. (NASDAQ:VTAL), a leading provider of enterprise-wide advanced visualization and analysis solutions, today launched ViTALConnect(R) 4.0 and introduced VitreaACCESS(TM), enabling Web-based access to the company's industry-leading solution. Combined with ViTAL's flagship Vitrea(R) software, ViTALConnect and VitreaACCESS produce a solution uniquely tailored to fit the requirements of a hospital, imaging center or clinical network. This integrated solution simplifies complex clinical workflows and eases clinical communication throughout the enterprise.

With ViTALConnect 4.0, the Web-enabled solution addresses the increased market requirements for the distribution of advanced visualization and analysis information throughout the enterprise. Version 4.0 features enhancements to its performance, rendering quality, and 3D and 4D reading tools. The advanced toolset includes features previously only available on multimodality workstations such as a variety of MPR (multi-planar reformat) modes, thick slab rendering in MPR, 3D volumetric visualization with simple point of interest navigation, 4D dataset visualization, CT/PET fusion and advanced analysis tools.

"ViTALConnect is an imperative tool for interpreting physicians, enabling them to review Vitrea workflows in a 5-10 minute time frame from any PC within the enterprise or from an external location. Besides being a DICOM viewer, ViTALConnect has complex 3D analysis tools that allow the interpreting physicians to analyze and confirm previously post-processed images," said Dr. Steven Strobbe, CEO, Gulf Coast Medical Center in Port Richey, Fla.

Extending easy, anywhere access to a Vitrea desktop, Vital Images also introduced VitreaACCESS, a solution for physicians who need remote access to the advanced visualization and analysis tools provided by Vitrea software. VitreaACCESS offers cost effective solutions designed to enable users to leverage workstations by allowing secure access to Vitrea applications from any PC in a facility or from external locations through a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

"Vital Images pioneered the development of advanced visualization and analysis capabilities and over the past 10 years has been the driving force behind the deployment among the radiology and imaging community. Now, with the latest version of ViTALConnect and VitreaACCESS, we're pleased to enable Web-based access of these crucial image analysis capabilities throughout the clinical enterprise," said Susan A. Wood, Ph.D., executive vice president of marketing and product development for Vital Images.

Limited or single point access to today's digital imaging technologies eliminates many of the benefits of that technology. With full enterprise access, the Vital Images product suite is designed to support rapid communication of complex medical imaging information for radiologists, technologists, and referring physicians. A complete advanced visualization and analysis solution, Vitrea, VitreaACCESS, and ViTALConnect provide the power and speed of workstation applications and enable communication and distribution flexibility provided by the Internet. For example, radiologists using Vitrea can manipulate studies creating key images then push them to the ViTALConnect 4.0 server, where referring physicians both inside and outside of the department can restore the Vitrea workflow and continue further analysis and manipulation by utilizing a Web interface.

"Enabling users to tailor solutions to fit the clinical and IT challenges specific to their hospital or imaging center, Vital Images can address their need to build an integrated advanced visualization and analysis solution. The sustainability of a software centric solution, independence from proprietary hardware components, flexible licensing options, IT integration tools such as LDAP (lightweight directory access protocol) integration, coupled with the strong ViTAL service and support team, help the customer create and evolve their solution to satisfy their goals for today and into the future," added Dr. Wood.
