Strengthens Sensor & Advanced Packaging Group's Acoustic Wave-based Sensor Offerings, Represents Strategic Building Block for Future Growth
HUDSON, N.H., Jan. 31 -- Vectron International, a leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of Frequency Control, Sensor, and Hybrid Product solutions, today announced it has completed the acquisition of BiODE, Inc., a designer and manufacturer of fluid viscosity sensors and viscometer readers. The BiODE organization will be integrated into Vectron's Sensors and Advanced Packaging (SAP) business unit. The deal represents Vectron's continued commitment to driving change and innovation in the $50 billion global sensor market through the delivery of ground-breaking acoustic wave sensor technology. Customers will now have access to first-of-its-kind fluid viscosity monitoring technology that delivers time and cost savings as well as increased scalability.
Under terms of the agreement, Vectron's SAP group will incorporate the BiODE product/technology platform, including the ViSmart(TM) viscosity sensor, into its current product portfolio, allowing the newly combined entity to quickly bring to market an innovative solution for fluid viscosity monitoring in industrial applications, such as oil condition monitoring. The BiODE product/technology platform will serve as the basis for a number of synergistic products in the SAP group's product roadmap.

Vectron's Acoustic Wave Sensors technology sets a new standard for performance and reliability in critical data gathering applications. BiODE's ViSmart delivers instantaneous and continuous real-time, in- process viscosity and temperature measurement. It is a portable and embeddable device with rugged design and multiple communication protocols and delivers simplified viscosity and temperature measurement with no customer calibration required. ViSmart is unaffected by shock, orientation, flow or vibration conditions, having a wide standard measurement and operating range.

Vectron will also use BiODE's core of engineers and inventors to form a research and development center for continued technology advancement. The new high-tech labs, located in Westbrook, Maine, will be used exclusively to develop additional sensors beyond viscometers, including biosensors, gas sensors and other fluid sensors. The center will also house business development functions focused on further establishing relationships with customers and partners.
