Varian Medical Systems Spotlights Industry-Leading Radiotherapy and Radiosurgery Technologies at Arab Health 2014 in Dubai

Press release date: January 27, 2014

Full range of equipment and software for the precision treatment of cancer exhibited at the Dubai Convention Center, January 27th-30th 2014

Dubai, UAE – Varian Medical Systems (NYSE:VAR), the premier supplier of radiotherapy equipment and software in the Middle East, is demonstrating its full range of radiotherapy delivery systems and software at the Arab Health Congress taking place here this week. The Varian booth (Sheikh Saeed Hall 1, booth S1-C40)  features the company's technology and products for radiotherapy, radiosurgery, brachytherapy, and proton therapy.

At the show, Varian is also announcing a collaboration with Mediclinic International to equip the new Mediclinic City Hospital North Wing radiotherapy department in Dubai, which is expected to start clinical treatments in late 2015.

Full Range of Products
The latest version of Varian's TrueBeam™ platform for fast and precise radiotherapy and radiosurgery will be on display, showcasing new image-guidance and precise patient positioning capabilities such as the PerfectPitch™ six-degrees-of-freedom couch, giving clinicians more angles from which to deliver treatments.

Visitors to the Varian booth can also learn more about the company's new Edge Radiosurgery™ treatment system, Varian's first dedicated end-to-end solution for planning and delivering advanced radiosurgery treatments using new real-time tumor tracking technology and motion management capabilities.

Varian is also unveiling RapidPlan™ for Middle East customers, offering knowledge-based treatment planning capabilities aimed at helping to create complex RapidArc® volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) and intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) treatment plans. RapidPlan software provides clinicians with standard of care models to use as a baseline for developing new RapidArc and IMRT treatment plans for their patients.  RapidArc and IMRT are radiotherapy techniques that focus precisely on the tumor while minimizing exposure of surrounding healthy tissues.

"We're excited to introduce RapidPlan to our Middle East customers and look forward to developing many more tools designed to improve the quality and cost effectiveness of care," says Rolf Staehelin, head of international marketing for Varian's Oncology Systems business. “RapidPlan helps automate an important part of the treatment planning process and allows clinicians to access an extensive body of clinical experience while expediting often cumbersome, time-consuming processes."

Mediclinic
At the Arab Health Congress, Varian and Mediclinic are announcing a collaboration that will make advanced treatments more available to cancer patients in the United Arab Emirates. Mediclinic, based in South Africa, is establishing a new radiotherapy center in Dubai and has selected Varian to equip the new facility with state-of-the-art radiotherapy treatment systems and software.

"We are pleased to have been selected to partner with Mediclinic in Dubai," adds Rolf Staehelin. "Varian is the global leader in integrated radiotherapy systems with a strong presence throughout the Middle East region and we are excited to be able to increase access to advanced treatments for the people of Dubai and the wider UAE."
