Remstar automated systems such as carousels, Vertical Lift Modules (VLMs) and pick-to-light flow rack configured as workstations, helps promote simple order filling techniques that improve productivity and efficiency while providing value added functionality in industrial applications.
When combined with inventory management and control software, these workstations can be used in bagging and tagging operations. Bagging and tagging is a value added process in which a counted or measured quantity of a specific stock keeping unit (SKU) is removed from a storage container and placed in a bag, sealed and labeled with information including the SKU number and quantity. Integrated workstations will deliver the item to the operator, print the label for the bag effortlessly.
The bagging and tagging process can be used in any operation where a specified amount of a bulk item is needed to fill an order. The process is most often used in industrial industries when handling small items is required and it is not economical to create pre-packaged quantities as specific SKUs. Ideal when handling quantities of small parts, parts are picked from a Remstar automated carousel or VLM unit, a label is automatically printed with the part name and SKU number, and any other valuable and required information.
By incorporating pick-to-light technology, organizations can implement pick and place or pick and toss techniques. Pick and place allows operators to select items from a bulk storage container and place them into individual totes or boxes to make an order. The pick and toss process can be used in any type of order picking application, but is more frequently used in batch picking applications. In this technique, pick-lights direct the operator to the specific location of the SKU to be retrieved and then to the appropriate container in which to place the item. Remstar automated storage and retrieval systems deliver stored items to operators at an ergonomically positioned height for easy retrieval, significantly increasing productivity. By taking advantage of unused overhead space, they can help organizations recover up to 85% of the floor space required by rack and shelving systems.
