Vacon Supplies Three Solar Inverters of 1,000 kW to Brussels Wastewater Treatment Plant

Vacon Plc – The global AC drives manufacturer Vacon has supplied three VACON® 8000 SOLAR inverters of 1,000 kW to Aquiris, a Brussels wastewater treatment plant in Belgium. The roof-installed 3,000-kW solar energy plant is currently the largest solar park in the Brussels capital region and corresponds to the size of five football fields. The solar park is fully operational at the moment.

The Vacon solar inverters convert the power from the plant's 10,000 solar panels with a peak power of more than 3,200 kW and feed it into the plant's electrical network. To yield the maximum power from the solar panels at all times, the solar inverters utilize Vacon's Multimaster concept which controls the operation of the inverters according to the intensity of the sun's radiation.

"We are happy to add this project to our list of completed projects in Belgium. Altogether in Belgium, we have delivered solar inverters to 20 operational PV plants of industrial size," says Daniel de Coster, Managing Director of Vacon Belgium.

The solar energy plant has been built on the roof of the wastewater treatment plant, and it will increase the self-sufficiency level in energy generation at Aquiris from 18% to 25%. All energy produced by the solar energy plant is consumed in the water treatment process.

"For Aquiris, clean high-quality electricity from the solar panels with a stable voltage and frequency was essential. It was one of the decisive factors why Vacon was chosen for this project. Another factors include fast and local service and support if necessary," says Jari Marjo, Vacon's Product Marketing Director, Solar Energy.
