MALVERN, Pa. - Vishay Precision Group, Inc. (NYSE: VPG) today announced that at electronica 2012, its Vishay Foil Resistors brand (VFR) will be performing demonstrations in the booth of Wilbrecht LEDCO, Inc., a subsidiary of Microprecision Electronics SA. Performed by VFR Senior Development Engineer Richard Zuratt, the demonstrations will illustrate the superior ESD, TCR, PCR, and characteristics of Bulk Metal Foil® resistors when compared to other resistor technologies, in addition to showcasing the capabilities of VFR Precision Centers.
Throughout the day on Nov. 14 and 15, visitors to booth 451 in Hall B5 can witness the following demonstrations performed by Mr. Zuratt:
· Electrostatic Discharge (ESD): The ESD capabilities of Bulk Metal Foil and thin film resistors will be compared. Bulk Metal Foil resistors experience no change in resistance or latent defects even after several ESD pulses in rapid succession.
· Temperature Coefficient of Resistance (TCR): The differences in TCR performance among three resistor technologies - thick film, thin film, and Bulk Metal Z-Foil technology - will be demonstrated. The superior TCR performance of Bulk Metal Z-Foil translates into increased overall stability.
· Power Coefficient of Resistance (PCR): For stability in real-world operating environments, this demonstration shows how Bulk Metal Foil resistors maintain all their design, physical, and electrical characteristics under applied power while thick and thin film resistors do not.
· VFR Precision Centers: This demonstration will illustrate how fast and simple it is for a Precision Center to build a foil resistor to any custom or standard resistance value, allowing engineers to order resistors in the exact quantity required in the exact value needed for small-quantity prototype runs.
Wilbrecht LEDCO has been a manufacturer of precision Bulk Metal Foil resistors based on VFR technology for more than 15 years, and its QPL-certified manufacturing plant in the United States is a VFR-authorized Precision Center. Recently, VFR has responded to the growing demand for surface-mount products by making models VSM and VSMP (Z-Foil) available to Wilbrecht LEDCO customers. Wilbrecht LEDCO trims, tests, and ships the surface-mount Bulk Metal Foil resistors in smaller quantities and selected values within five days to meet the ever-shorter lead times required for new product design and development.
