Press release date: November 14, 2006

Hanau / Frankfurt - Hanau-based company VACUUMSCHMELZE will present a several interesting novelties at this year's electronica (14 to 17 November) in Hall B5, Stand 119, including an array of new products from its Cores and Components Unit. These include three new families of current sensors featuring enhanced electronics and performance, plus two software tools for selecting current-compensated radio interference suppression chokes (common mode chokes). In addition, visitors can look forward to ultra small size S0 mini modules and shielded current converters for electronic energy meters. Finally, VACUUMSCHMELZE presents nanocrystalline low-permeability tape wound cores of VITROPERM 250F.

The new current sensors for PCB mounting are based on VACUUMSCHMELZE's patented principle of a compensation sensor with magnetic probe as zero field detector. The three new product families deliver ultra-high precision current readings. Their electronics are almost completely concentrated in a new IC designed in collaboration with leading semiconductor producers. Among these new models are the smallest sensors VACUUMSCHMELZE has ever produced, matching their compact size with accurate readings of high maximum and continuous currents. They can be integrated 1:1 into a wide range of customer applications without the need for adaptation.

The CMC Quick-Selector is a database enabling the correct model of common mode choke to be selected from a list of standard choke types. A second program, combining user-friendly operation with high complexity, enables custom dimensions to be calculated for nanocrystalline-core CMCs and supplies not only design details for appropriate CMCs, but also diagrams of the characteristics of impedance Z, insertion loss aE, inductance L and allowed unbalanced power depending on frequency.

Among the smallest ISDN components in the world, the new SMD (surface mounted device) S0 Modules comprise two miniature S0 transmitters and a common mode choke (CMC). The components comply with all transmission technology specifications and meet the EN 60950 safety standards for supplementary insulation. Their advanced magnetic cores are based on VACUUMSCHMELZE's VITROVAC alloy.

Shielded CTs (current transformers) for electronic energy meters feature ultra-low sensitivity to external magnetic fields plus integrated shields which render additional external shielding superfluous. The current sensors are unaffected by magnetic fields up to strength 1 T.

Nanocrystalline low-permeability tape wound cores made of VITROPERM 250F have permeability of around 4000 and saturation inductance of 1,200 mT. They offer about 2.5 times higher unbalanced currents than ferrites, plus superior broadband RFI attenuation and an extended temperature range. Applications for these cores include current-compensated chokes for bearing current suppres-sion, but also many other applications involving high unbalanced currents. The new nanocrystalline cores offer significant advantages in volume and perform-ance.

VACUUMSCHMELZE GmbH & Co. KG VACUUMSCHMELZE (VAC), based in Hanau, designs, produces and markets advanced magnetic materials and related products. In 1914, the first vacuum furnace laid the foundation for today's VACUUMSCHMELZE. Industrial vacuum melting techniques for alloys have been in operation since 1923. VAC today has over 3,000 employees in over 40 countries and annual sales of around 300 million euros, and is the holder of over 600 patents. The company is among the world's most highly innovative developers of advanced industrial materials.

VAC's range of products comprises a broad array of advanced semi-finished products, components, parts, modules and systems for use in a wide variety of fields and industries spanning watch-making and medical technology, regenerative energies, shipbuilding and telecommunications, and the automotive and aviation industries. VAC's custom solutions are developed in close collaboration with the customer, reflecting the company's expertise in materials and state-of-the-art production technology.
