University of Florida Student Amy Adams Receives ASTM International Scholarship



W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., -Amy Adams, an undergraduate materials science and engineering student at the University of Florida, Gainesville, Fla., has received the Mary R. Norton Memorial Scholarship from ASTM International Committee E04 on Metallography.

Established in 1975, the Mary R. Norton Memorial Scholarship Award for Women encourages female college seniors or first-year graduate students to pursue the study of physical metallurgy or materials science, with an emphasis on the relationship between microstructure and properties.

A senior at the University of Florida, Adams' studies are focused on metals, and her research is on serial sectioning and 3D reconstruction to study microstructural evolution of pure metals during grain growth. She is currently a research assistant at UF, and prior to that was a research assistant at the Florida Institute for Sustainable Energy. This summer, Adams will work at Exxon Mobil, where she will focus on corrosion analysis and prevention.

Adams is a member of the University of Florida's Material Advantage Student Program, and serves as a an honors ambassador for the UF Honors Program.
