Universal Music Group Selects MEGA for Enterprise Architecture Management

Initiative begins with application portfolio management project

BOSTON - Universal Music Group, the world's largest music content company, has selected MEGA, recognized leader in enterprise architecture, to help streamline IT operations to meet industry and market challenges.

The company is accelerating enterprise architecture (EA) initiatives by first using the MEGA Suite for an application portfolio management (APM) program to reduce complexity, duplication, and cost across IT systems that largely grew out of numerous mergers, acquisitions, partnerships, and organizational changes. The goal is to reduce the IT application landscape by over 45% worldwide, while improving IT alignment with the core business.

Universal Music Group (UMG) is the world's leading music company, with wholly owned record operations or licensees in 59 territories. Its businesses also include Universal Music Publishing Group, the industry's leading global music publishing operation. UMG's record labels include A&M/Octone, Decca, Def Jam Recordings, Deutsche Grammophon, Disa, Emarcy, Fonovisa, Geffen Records, Interscope Records, Island Records, Lost Highway Records, Machete Music, MCA Nashville, Mercury Nashville, Mercury Records, Polydor Records, Show Dog - Universal Music, Motown, Universal Music Latino, Universal Republic and Verve Music Group, as well as a multitude of record labels owned or distributed by its record company subsidiaries around the world. UMG is a unit of Vivendi, a global media and communications company.

The music industry faces new challenges in digital music distribution and delivery, content development, licensing and copyright protection, and royalty management. UMG needed a global vision of its resources to anticipate trends, make well-informed decisions, and reduce unknowns, delays, and costs.

UMG selected MEGA and its EA management solution to implement the method and tools for its APM program, based on a common, shared information repository. The company selected the MEGA Suite because of its advanced functionality and technical capabilities in EA, and its ability to help UMG quickly and efficiently implement the program. The Suite will help UMG involve all stakeholders through a Web portal that will provide relevant information, from general descriptions to key metrics for assessment.

"We wanted to partner with a solid, reliable organization to ensure the success of this project in our subsidiaries around the world," explained Julien Quaegebeur, EA manager at UMG.

"MEGA more than met our criteria for software capabilities, knowledge of EA best practices, and consulting expertise," confirmed Kyle Owen, EA manager at UMG.

The MEGA Suite has been selected by industry leaders like UMG for more than 20 years to improve business performance and reduce costs. It offers a comprehensive solution that encompasses all dimensions of EA, from strategy and business modeling to IT systems design, APM, and business process optimization. For several years, prominent industry analysts have named MEGA a leader in in their EA research reports.
