In an industry where products protecting and controlling power systems assets normally require hours of extensive programming to customize protection settings and control logic to a particular application, GE Multilin has taken ground-breaking steps to simplify and streamline this process.

MARKHAM, Ontario, Canada - GE Multilin today unveiled major Ease-of-Use enhancements to their flagship Universal Relay (UR) family of protection and control products, covering a full range of applications including bus, distance, generator, motor and transformer protection. In an industry where products protecting and controlling power systems assets normally require hours of extensive programming to customize protection settings and control logic to a particular application, GE Multilin has taken ground-breaking steps to simplify and streamline this process.
The UR family now has a new Enhanced Front Panel that provides users with more visibility to power system events and control of additional substation equipment. A new, bright and enlarged display provides easy to read, clear indication of metered power system values from across a room. The enhanced LED Annunciator panel has larger and brighter LEDs and provides an easy method for labeling the LEDs for customization of the Annunciator. There are also 4 additional User-Programmable pushbuttons along with several other key enhancements including a lockable RS232 communications port and a new hinge assembly that allows users access to all of the modules in a relay.
GE Multilin's powerful EnerVista UR Setup Software provides comprehensive, easy to use tools to simplify device setup and configuration. The new Ethernet Auto-Discovery feature, automatically detects any UR devices on a network and configures all of the necessary communications settings. This new tool allows users to communicate to all of their devices within seconds of plugging their computer into the network. GE Multilin has also introduced Quick Links to provide instant access to commonly used functions without having to navigate through the menu tree. The single-click, Quick Links provide access to features such as viewing event records, Oscillography waveform records, the status of Inputs and Outputs, all metered parameters, and the protection summary.
To simplify device configuration, GE Multilin has made it possible for protection elements to directly control the status of contact outputs without having to configure logic equations. This enhancement greatly simplifies the process of configuring relays for basic tripping and control applications.
The UR family also includes a new security enhancement that assists Utilities in complying with NERC CIP requirements. The UR family can now be configured with different Local and Remote passwords for both Setting change and Command access.
