A Moment with U.S. Representative Danny Davis Leads to Hopes of Something More "Permanent"
BANNOCKBURN, Ill., USA, August 12, 2009 - Lincoln International's Chicago office may seem like a long way from Washington D.C., but it's really closer than you may think, especially given the relationships between some Congressmen and their constituents.
Jack Calderon, Lincoln International's managing director and a member of the IPC Board of Directors, was introduced for the first time to Yul Edwards, Chief of Staff to U.S. Rep. Danny Davis, at IPC's Capitol Hill Day held in Washington, D.C. Taking a moment to connect with his government officials in May 2009, Calderon had a valuable opportunity to talk about important issues that impact doing business in the electronics manufacturing industry, namely the importance of a permanent Research and Development (R & D) Tax Credit. Coincidentally, Davis is a co-sponsor of H.R. 422, a bill that would increase the Alternative Simplified Tax Credit (ASC) and make the R&D tax credit permanent.
Personally connecting with his constituency, Davis paid a visit to Lincoln International recently when he was in Chicago. In a brief address to Lincoln employees, including Calderon and Robert Barr, co-founder and managing director and president of North America, Davis discussed the new administration's focus on the economy, environment and health care reform and took time to answer questions from his constituents.
IPC President and CEO Denny McGuirk was also in attendance and thanked the congressman for co-sponsoring H.R. 422. "As recently as last week, President Obama said that a permanent R&D tax credit is needed. We are hopeful that H.R. 422 will go to the floor in the fall and give the economy ... and our members a much-needed boost," said McGuirk.
