Two Molded Fiber Glass Family of Companies in Union City Worked Together to Save Almost $400,000 During Fiscal Year 2012

Union City, PA - Molded Fiber Glass Union City and Water Treatment Products (WTP) together saved 386,000 dollars last fiscal year, through their lean Six Sigma efforts. Molded Fiber Glass Family of Companies tries to be leaner each year. Four years ago the Union City and WTP entities implemented their TOMI (TO Make Improvements) program. This program encourages all teammates to enter their ideas to TOMI committee. Information entered includes specific issue, recommendation and expected benefit. Committee once a month goes over all entries and if plausible and recommendation benefits entity, teammate wins a gift certificate. At the end of the fiscal year best and most lucrative idea wins the grand prize.

Ideas come in the categories of waste elimination, safety, improving working conditions, really anything that makes less cost, and betters the work environment, said Dave Naugle, Quality Manager. This last summer Barb Bartholomew's idea of cutting fiberglass strips in manufacturing differently saved us close to three hundred dollars.
