Triple Canopy Signs International Code of Conduct for Private Security Service Providers

CEO Ignacio Balderas Affirms Company's Commitment to Standards and Accountability
RESTON, Va., Nov. 9, 2010 - Triple Canopy, Inc., a leading provider of security and mission support services, today signed the International Code of Conduct (ICoC) for Private Security Service Providers, a global initiative aiming to set global standards for the private security industry and establish independent mechanisms for effective governance and oversight.
Triple Canopy CEO Ignacio Balderas was invited to speak at a signatory ceremony for the Code in Geneva, Switzerland where Triple Canopy was one of nearly 50 security companies participating in the event.
"The ICoC is unique in that it represents the willingness of governments, clients, the industry and civil society to sit down and discuss how to bring real world solutions to a critical industry," said Balderas. "While governments and clients play an important role in regulating the sector, the industry itself must be willing to take a stand and set standards."
Triple Canopy, founded in 2003, has participated in the effort to establish an international code of conduct since the development of the Montreaux Document in 2006, and even provided the company's Code of Conduct to the Swiss government as a source document.
In his speech, Balderas said he recognized that companies such as Triple Canopy operate at a higher standard than the industry at-large and that the industry needed a way to ensure that all security companies worldwide were committed to the same principles and held similar ethical and operational standards.
"Our next steps are to ensure that the Code gains worldwide acceptance and becomes an integral part of how the industry operates and how governments and clients select security providers," said Balderas. "We must also work to ensure that transparency, oversight and accountability accompany the Code so that the full extent of its intent is shown."
The ICoC is the result of a multi-stakeholder initiative coordinated by private security companies, industry associations, civil society and individual business leaders with the assistance of the Government of Switzerland and in consultation with the governments of the United Kingdom and the United States.
