New X-ray source allows for smaller and more affordable XRF devices

MARINA DEL REY, Calif. -- Tribogenics Inc., a producer of innovative X-ray sources, has developed a new dual-energy X-ray source for XRF. This new source will facilitate more accurate elemental analysis for companies using XRF technology, impacting such industries as oil and gas, mining, scrap metal, recycling, consumer product safety, alloy identification and environmental testing.

"The ability to use multiple metal targets in such a compact X-ray device is unprecedented. This opens the door for significant advances in portable XRF analysis," said Dr. Carlos Camara, Chief Scientist at Tribogenics and inventor of the technology.

Dual-energy X-ray sources in XRF devices increases accuracy by eliminating the interference generated when substances containing the same metal as a traditional X-ray tube target are analyzed. This capability also promises to reduce analysis time by eliminating the need to filter the X-ray tube output.

This new dual-energy X-ray source will launch alongside Tribogenics' lineup of small X-ray sources designed for new compact XRF devices in 2013. Tribogenics innovative X-ray sources will open the door for new XRF devices that are smaller and more affordable than existing solutions. The company is actively evaluating commercial opportunities to bring this new technology to market.
